Couple Beaten During Home Invasion Fought Development: Report

The Lakewood couple beaten during a home invasion have been vocal critics of plans to develop Eagle Ridge Golf Course, the report said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — An investigation was continuing Thursday into the beating of a Lakewood couple who have been outspoken in the fight against development in the area.

Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said there was no new information to report Thursday in the investigation into the beatings of Frederick “Rob” Robison, 66, and his wife, Patricia Robison, 64 in their home on Eagle Ridge Circle in The Fairways, an age-restricted community next to Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

The Robisons were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said, following the incident; Staffordsmith said police were notified at 2:30 a.m. of a robbery at the home.

The Asbury Park Press reported the Robisons have been vocal opponents of plans for development at Eagle Ridge Golf Course, which was sold to GDSM Holdings last year. A settlement in late October 2017 between GDSM and the state Department of Environmental Protection would allow 1,034 residential units, some as duplexes, some as apartments, at the site, a significant reduction from the 1,800 units GDSM originally sought. But the plans have remained mired in legal wrangling as homeowners in The Fairways have filed suit to stop development, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The Lakewood Scoop, which first reported the home invasion, reported the couple was bound with duct tape and beaten, and their car stolen, citing unidentified officials.
