Lakewood Boy, 11, Hospitalized After He's Hit By Car: Police
Police say the boy ran into the street without warning and the driver was unable to stop in time.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — An 11-year-old Lakewood boy remained hospitalized on Tuesday after he was hit by a car when he ran into the street Monday night, police said.
The accident happened on Clover Street about 5:15 p.m., said Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police Department.
Officer Sean Ward responded and learned the boy had run into the road without warning and was hit by a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by a 30-year-old Brooklyn woman who was driving north on Clover toward Ocean Avenue, Staffordsmith said.

Staffordsmith said the driver tried to stop but was unable to do so without hitting the boy, which was confirmed by several people who witnessed the accident, he said.
The boy suffered an injury to his pelvis and may have suffered leg injuries as well, Staffordsmith said. He was taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition, Staffordsmith said.

As of Tuesday, no summonses have been issued and the case is being reviewed by the Traffic Safety Division, he said.
