Home Invasion Robbery Injures Lakewood Couple: Police

The couple was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment; a search for the suspect is ongoing.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood couple is hospitalized Wednesday following an early morning home invasion robbery at their home, Lakewood police said.

Police received a report about 2:30 a.m. of a possible robbery in progress at a home on Eagle Ridge Circle, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said. Eagle Ridge Circle is in The Fairways, an age-restricted community.

The responding officers found an injured man in the garage of the home and found an injured woman inside the home, he said.

Staffordsmith said the suspect is believed to have fled prior to the arrival of police.

Both victims were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment, he said.

"At this time the investigation is active and more information will follow as it becomes available," Staffordsmith said.

The Lakewood Scoop, which first reported the incident, reported the couple was bound with duct tape and beaten, and their car stolen, citing unidentified officials.
