Lakewood Man Charged With Resisting During Warrant Arrest: Police
Police said the man was taken down to the ground near the 7-Eleven on River Avenue to complete the arrest.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Lakewood police say they wrestled a man to the ground when he resisted attempts to arrest him in connection with an outstanding arrest warrant.
Charles Davis, 29, of Lakewood, was arrested about 9:40 p.m. on Jan. 16 after Officer James Mahecha saw him walking through the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 200 River Ave., Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said Tuesday.
Mahecha was driving along Route 9 when he saw Davis, who he believed had an outstanding criminal warrant, Staffordsmith said.

Mahecha confirmed the warrant, and as he tried to put Davis in handcuffs, Davis began to resist. He was then taken down to the ground with help from Officer Daniel Umlauf and arrested, Staffordsmith said.
Davis was taken to the Ocean County Jail on the arrest warrant and additionally was charged with resisiting arrest. He since has been released to await trial.
