Lakewood Man Sexually Assaulted Girl For 2 Years: Prosecutor

Agileo Ramirez, 31, is being held awaiting a detention hearing, authorities said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood man has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl for the last two years, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer said Tuesday in a joint news release.

Agileo Ramirez, 31, was arrested Saturday, a day after the alleged abuse was reported to Lakewood police, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

Ramirez, who knows the child. is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River. On Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Wendel Daniels ordered Ramirez held until trial, Della Fave said. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer is in place as well.

Detective Alex Dasti of the special victims unit of the prosecutor's office and Lakewood Detective Charles Messer, with assistance from Patrolman Felix Rivera investigated the report and found evidence of alleged abuse over the past two years, Della Fave said. He did not indicate what that evidence entailed.

Ramirez was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated criminal sexual contact and sexual assault, he said.

The case was reviewed by Senior Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater, who approved the charges. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing; a no victim contact order and Nicole's Law were implemented, he said.

ICE was notified and provided a detainer, and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency also was notified.
