LAKEWOOD, NJ — Oak Street School in Lakewood was locked down briefly on Thursday after authorities received a report that a student had firearm, police said.

Lakewood police were called to Oak Street School about 8 a.m. for the report that a student had a gun, Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said. School administrators locked down the school as a precaution before police arrived.

Police found the 8-year-old student was not armed, and a search both of the school and the bus he rode to school turned up no weapon, Staffordsmith said.
