Motorcyclist Killed, Lakewood Couple Injured In Crash: Police

Christopher M. Marino Jr., 18, of Toms River, died at the scene. George and Patricia Osgoodby of Lakwood were hospitalized, police said.

BRICK, NJ — An 18-year-old Toms River man was killed Sunday morning and a Lakewood couple was seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into a minivan on Brick Boulevard, police said.

Christopher M. Marino Jr., 18, of Toms River, died at the scene, Brick Patrolman Jay Lampiasi said. George Osgoodby, 77, and Patricia Osgoodby, 76, of Lakewood, both were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with serious injuries, he said.

The crash happened at 8:55 a.m. at the north entrance to Bay Harbor Plaza, Lampiasi said. Marino was riding a gray 2016 Suzuki GSX north on Brick Boulevard. George Osgoodby was driving a black 2015 Honda CRV south on Brick Boulevard and was making a left turn into Bay Harbor Plaza when the CRV was hit in the passenger side by the motorcycle, Lampiasi said.

The force of the impact caused the Honda to overturn, trapping the couple inside, he said.

Brick Township Police EMS and MONOC paramedics responded, and the Breton Woods, Pioneer and Laurelton fire companies along with the Silverton Fire Company responded to extricate the Osgoodbys, he said.

In addition to the Brick Police Traffic Safety Unit, the crash was investigated by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Sheriff Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit also responded.

Traffic on the northbound lanes of Brick Boulevard was detoured around the scene for approximately two hours during the investigation, Lampiasi said.

The investigation by Lampiasi and Patrolman Keith Donnelly is continuing, he said.

The preliminary investigation revealed speed may have contributed to the cause of the crash, Lampiasi said.
