Route 70 Closed Due To Overturned Car, Downed Pole

Reports were that a person had to be extricated from the car and taken to a hospital for treatment.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Route 70 is closed in both directions at New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood due to a crash Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The state Department of Transportation said detours are in place in the area of the crash, which is at the New Hampshire Avenue intersection.

Witnesses told Patch there is a car overturned and a light signal is down in the road as a result of the crash.

Firefighters and first aid crews are on the scene as well, witnesses said.

The Lakewood Scoop reported a person had to be extricated from the car and was set to be airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.
