LAKEWOOD, NJ — Lakewood High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning following a suspicious email sent to the Lakewood Police Department, police said.

Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said police are speaking with two students, "who are believed to be involved or have knowledge of the email," he said, as well as ensuring the safety of all students and faculty.

The Lakewood Scoop tweeted that authorities were sweeping the school with K9s as part of the investigation. The report quoted Board Attrney Michael Inzelbuch as saying both the high school and Lakewood Middle School, which is across the street from the high school, were locked down as a precaution after the threat was made at about 10 a.m.
