The investigation into the crash is continuing; Lakewood police said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood woman was killed Sunday evening when she was hit by a car on Route 9 downtown, police said Monday.
Sofia Biernacka, 76, sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident and was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Lt. LeRoy Marshall said. Attempts to save her life were not successful, he said.
Biernacka was hit shortly before 5:30 p.m. by a 2017 Hyundai driven by Victor Indiero, 63, of Freehold. Indiero was driving south on Route 9 — known as Madison Avenue in that area — when he hit Biernacka near 6th Street, Marshall said.

Indiero was questioned in the crash and released and his car was impounded, both pending further investigation; excessive speed did not appear to have been a factor in the crash, Marshall said,
The crash is being investigated by the Lakewood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
