ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM: COMMUNICATING AND MAINTAINING CONNECTIONS WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBER AFFECTED BY DEMENTIA
Program teaches family members how to use emotions and the five senses to communicate with their loved one

Mercer County area residents are invited to the Alzheimer’s Association’s community education program on dementia, entitled, “Effective Communication Strategies”. The program will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, at RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center, 3100 Quakerbridge Road, Hamilton Township. The program is free but registration is required to reserve seating and materials. Please call 973.586.4300 by May 19 to RSVP.
Program Description: Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress, the ability to use words is lost, and families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
