EASTON, Pa. — In the completion of a game suspended by lightning on Sept. 7, the Rider University field hockey team lost at 14th ranked Lafayette College 3-1 on Tuesday evening (Sept. 25).
For Rider (6-3), junior Sandra Penas (Barcelona, Spain) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season using a reverse shot with just over five minutes left in the game for the final score.
Penas is ninth on Rider’s all-time scoring list with 98 points (40g, 18a), three points behind Courtney Bertos and Tricia Crotty.

Lafayette (7-1) took a 1-0 lead just 1:53 into the game and went ahead by two goals with 14 minutes left before intermission.
After a 30 minute lightning delay on September 7, the game was halted with just over six minutes remaining in the opening half.

The Leopards took a 3-0 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest.
Rider out-shot the Leopards 10-6 and the Broncs held a 12-5 penalty corner advantage.
Freshman Joelle Prettyman (Newark, Del./St. Mark’s) started in goal for Rider and played the first 28:45 on September 7 before fellow rookie Alicia Carthan (Bordentown) played the final 41:15 in tonight’s segment of the game.
Two of Rider’s three losses this season have been to teams currently ranked in the 2012 Penn Monto / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll (Drexel, Lafayette).
Rider hosts Lehigh on Sunday at Ben Cohen Field, beginning at noon.
