The Rider University field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with an 8-0, non-conference win on Sunday (Sept. 30) at Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville.

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Rider University field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with an 8-0, non-conference win on Sunday (Sept. 30) at Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville.
For Rider (7-3), junior Sandra Penas (Barcelona, Spain) had a hat trick (three goals) with senior Marlaine Schneider (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) scoring twice in the win.
Penas also assisted on Schneider’s first goal and her seven point day gives her 105 career points, seventh most ever at Rider.

The goals by Schneider were the 30th and 31st of her career.
Schneider got the Broncs on the board 12:40 into the game and Penas scored on a breakaway, just under eight minutes later to give Rider a 2-0 lead. Schneider scored again at 21:03 and Penas added her second of the day on a backhanded shot, just 22 seconds later for a 4-0 Bronc lead.

Freshman Rachel Ippolite (Woolwich Twp./Kingsway Regional) scored off a corner play, just 1:25 before the half and Rider led 5-0 at intermission.
Senior Gabby Burgo (Collingswood) gave senior Jackie Adams (Medford Lakes/Shawnee) a through ball with Adams scoring her first of the season at 42:07.
Penas scored her team-leading ninth of the year on a back handed shot with 24 minutes left and sophomore Eefje Kok (Berkel Enschot, Netherlands) completed the scoring 13 seconds later with her second goal of the season.
Rookie goalies Alicia Carthan (Bordentown) and Joelle Prettyman (Newark, Del./St. Mark’s) split the game in the net for Rider with Carthan picking up her fifth win of the season. Prettyman made both of the Bronc saves as Rider out-shot the Mountain Hawks 30-5.
Rider held a 13-5 penalty corner advantage.
Rider defeated Lehigh 6-1 last year in Bethlehem.
The Broncs have won 17 of the 34 games (1 tie) in the series against the Mountain Hawks, including the last three (2011, 2009, 2008).
Rider plays its next four games on the road, starting with Columbia Wednesday.
