College Golf: Rider Third of 11 at La Salle Invitationa

The Rider University golf team placed third at the La Salle Invitational Sunday (March 24).

AMBLER, Pa. - The Rider University golf team placed third at the La Salle Invitational Sunday (March 24).

The tournament, which was shortened to 18 holes due to anticipated inclement weather Monday, was played at the 6,400 yard, par-71 Talamore Country Club.

Rider finished with a 307 in the opening event of the spring season, 11 shots behind winner Hofstra and two shots behind the host Explorers.

For the Broncs, sophomore Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), senior Evan McGrain (West Windsor/W. Windsor-Plainsboro South) and sophomore Cole Clark (Califon/Voorhees) all finished tied for seventh out of 63 golfers with a four-over par 75.

Clark had one of three eagles in the tournament with McGrain having the lowest par-three scoring average at 2.75.  McGrain also tied for third with four birdies.  Liddell had 11 pars, good for fourth place in the field.

Brandon Shinn from Hofstra was the medalist with an even par 71.

Also for Rider, senior Beau Guarino (Burlington Township) was tied for 29th with an 82 and junior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) shot an 88 to tie for 50th.

Rider plays at the Lafayette Invitational April 8-9.
