NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — In a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match, originally postponed by Hurricane Sandy, the Rider University volleyball team was blown away by Iona on Monday evening (Nov. 5).
Iona won in straight sets 25-18, 25-9, 25-14.
For Rider (11-15, 4-12 MAAC), senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) had 13 digs with sophomore Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) adding 10 assists. Gajewski entered the match 18th nationally in digs per set with 5.53.

Iona out-hit Rider .347 to .133 and the Gaels had 13 service aces in the match with took one hour and nine minutes.
The Gaels avenged a 3-2 loss to Rider on Sept. 30 in Lawrenceville.

The match was originally scheduled for last week but was postponed due to the severe weather and resulting damage from Sandy.
Rider returns home for the final three matches of the regular season, beginning with a non-conference match against Fordham in Alumni Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
