The Rider University wrestling team won all five contested matches, four by pin to defeat Sacred Heart University on Saturday (Feb. 9) in a non-conference dual in Alumni Gymnasium.

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Rider University wrestling team won all five contested matches, four by pin to defeat Sacred Heart University on Saturday (Feb. 9) in a non-conference dual in Alumni Gymnasium.
Freshman 125 Patrick Skinner (Freeport, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial HS) opened the action with an early take down and won by fall with 17 seconds left in the opening period. For Skinner, it was his first collegiate win.
Sophomore 133 Jimmy Morris (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony’s) had an early 5-0 lead after a takedown and near fall and pinned his opponent at the 1:59 mark of the first period. Morris, the second ranked 133 in the CAA, improved to 23-10 on the season.

Sophomore 141 Rob Cigna (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) broke a 4-4 second period tie with a series of take downs and used two third period take downs and riding time for a 14-8 decision. Cigna won for the fourth time this season and picked up his first victory at 141.
Junior 174 James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) won by fall at 1:23 and sophomore 197 Donald McNeil Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary) needed just 2:06 for a pin in the final bout of the day. Brundage, the third ranked 174 in the CAA won for the 16th time and McNeil, the third ranked 197 in the CAA, won for the 17th time this season.

Rider hosts Drexel University on Sunday in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) dual at 2 p.m.
