Local Artist Receives Prestigious State Award
You don't have to travel far to find great art. Lawrenceville artist Chris Cooper gets state recognition with arts fellowship.
Local artist Chris Cooper received a 2013 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The highly competitive award is given to New Jersey artists solely on independent peer panel assessment of artistic quality in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. The Council explains, “Artists are the creative capital of our communities and this is why it is the Arts Council's goal to promote them, encourage them, assist them to achieve their highest ambitions and help a wider public understand and appreciate all that artists do to make New Jersey a better place.” The Lawrenceville resident is known for his quirky paintings of landscapes, still life, and scenes from the artist’s life; all with a twist. His work is currently featured at Seraphin Gallery in Philadelphia, but Chris is also very active in the local arts community. He was recently a gallery member of the now defunct Lawrenceville Main Street Artists Network and part of the newly formed Creative Collective of Mercer County. This award proves that great art and artists aren’t only in the big metropolitan areas, it can be just around the corner. More of his work can be seen at ChrisCooperArt.com
