Want to know the best kept secret in town??? Girl Scouts!!!

2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scout program, and in those hundred years a lot of things have changed.  Say Girl Scouts and most folks instantly think about little girls making crafts at meeting, melting smores fireside and selling cookies a booth stands.  While all of these things are time honored traditions we still hold near and dear, here’s what you might not know about today’s Girl Scouts:

  • Girl Scouts planting hundreds and hundreds of stalks of dune grass in a single day on LBI
  • Dozens of troops banding together to provide Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys to each year
  • Busloads of local scouts and parents heading to Washington D.C. for a National Sing-a-Long
  • Whitewater rafting, rock climbing and fencing daytrips
  • Outdoor and camporee events where many girls get their first taste of camping, row boats, fishing and campfires
  • Tons and tons of career exploration and STEM programs
  • Those cookies… well that program is the gateway into our world class Business Management program!
  • And so many programs and opportunities it would take volumes to list each one!

And most importantly… a whole bunch of ‘just because - girl time’ where we build girls of confidence, character and courage.  In 2012, The Year of the Girl, we want to get the word out!  Girl Scouts is a place where every girl can learn about herself, her world and her community while building lifelong friendships.

Now we can’t do it without you… the adult volunteers are the backbone of everything.  While leaders have often been moms, we also have dads, grandparents, retirees, college students and alumni who volunteer as both leaders and in troop support positions.  You can too!

Without leaders and troop volunteers we can’t hope to keep up with the demand for troops.

Our goal ~ to be able to have a troop for each and every girl who wants to be a part of this amazing program!

  • Is it hard to be a leader? -Nope!
  • Does it really take that much time? -It's up to you how much time you give
  • I don’t have any special skill, how could I help? -The ways to help and be a part of the team are endless
  • How will I know what to do or where to start? - That's simple... we'll help you all the way... we are a village
