Women’s College Basketball: Rider’s Caitlin Bopp Honored by the MAAC and CollegeSportsMadness.com

Senior Caitlin Bopp of the Rider University women's basketball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played Dec. 3-9 it was announced Monday (Dec. 10).

EDISON — Senior Caitlin Bopp (Baltimore, Md./Inst. of Notre Dame) of the Rider University women’s basketball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played Dec. 3-9 it was announced Monday afternoon (Dec. 10).

A preseason Third Team All-Conference selection, Bopp was also named the CollegeSportsMadness.com MAAC Player of the Week.

In Rider’s 66-60 win against Army on Dec. 7, Bopp finished one off her career-high with 20 points and added eight rebounds, three blocks and a steal as the Broncs handed the Black Knights only their second loss of the season.

Bopp scored five points, helping to key a 20-0 Rider (4-4) run as the Broncs turned an 18-8 deficit into a 28-18 lead mid-way through the opening half.

After Army cut Rider’s lead to one with two minutes left in the game, Bopp’s efforts on defense helped Rider clinch the six-point win.

Bopp is now tied for fourth all-time on Rider’s career rebound list with 728.

Bopp is averaging 10.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and she is second in the MAAC and 38th in the nation averaging 2.13 blocks per game.

This is the second week in a row that Rider has taken home the conference Player of the Week honor.  Last week, senior Sironda Chambers (Wilmington, Del.) was recognized by the MAAC after averaging 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while logging 30 minutes per contest as the Broncs went 2-1 and advanced to the title game of the Brown Classic.

In 16 seasons in the MAAC, this is the first time that a Rider player has won the award in back to back weeks and it is also the first time that Rider has had two players earn the Player of the Week award in the same season.

Rider travels to Pittsburgh on Dec. 16 for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
