Cinco de Mayo Fiesta To Benefit Women's Workforce Development

WEST TRENTON, NJ (5/4/18) – On Thursday, May 3, 2018, ICI Flooring & Furniture Showroom held a “Cinco de Mayo” fiesta at its new showroom in West Trenton with proceeds from the evening benefitting Dress for Success Central New Jersey (DFSCNJ). The event included Mexican food, drinks, live music, and auction.

“We are so pleased to have partnered with Dress for Success on this event,” said Brett Margulis, President, Innovative Commercial Interiors (ICI). “Each year, we throw a party to thank our dedicated customers and vendors. This year, as we unveil our new showroom, we decided to go one step further and give back to the community. Dress for Success is a terrific organization that provides critical services to disadvantaged women in Greater Mercer County.”

With eight signature programs, Dress for Success has helped more than 6,000 women and girls improve their financial outlook by helping them to improve their workforce development skills. Programs include Image Enhancement Boutique, Career Counseling Services, Professional Women’s Group, Designing Your Future, Customer Service Excellence, Financial Literacy, Latina Empowerment Initiative, and Youth Mentoring Workshops.

Melissa Tenzer, Executive Director of DFSCNJ stated, “It all starts with the suit, but does not end there. We offer 8 workforce development programs to give our women the educational tools and community mentors to succeed in work. Tonight, we are here to celebrate Emilia and the women who no longer allow their past stories to define them. The women who graduate from our programs have authored new chapters in their lives, embracing and embodying a fierce boldness that has allowed them not only to succeed, but to become public speakers and advocates for Dress for Success Central New Jersey.”

Thanks to a dedicated committee of local community leaders, ICI’s Cinco de Mayo, was a remarkable success. Highlights of the Fiesta included music by The Network Band and a moving speech delivered by DFSCNJ Success Ambassador, Emilia Vasquez, a graduate of DFSCNJ’s Designing Your Future program. “From the moment I walked through the door, I was treated like a Queen … I went through the program and it was awesome! They helped me with resume writing and public speaking. After I did that class, I felt strong about my interviewing skills. I felt amazing. I was like, ok, I can conquer the world now.”
