· Using a sump pump or the drain, drain out all the water. Both are great options, but if you want the job to go faster, use a sump pump.
· Got an air blower? Remove all the water. Switch off the heater to prevent damage, then place the cover back on and run the air blower for about 30 seconds after switching the power back on. Don’t forget to turn it back off again.

· Remove filters from the filter well and set them aside for cleaning.
· Purchase a designated filter cartridge cleaner and soak your filters in this solution for at least 24 hours. You never want to store dirty filters.
· Loosen any unions that attach to your pumps, then remove drain plugs so water can flow out. Store plugs in a safe place.
· Bow out the pipes with the use of a shop-vac on the “blow” setting rather than the “suction” setting.
· Once you get into the empty tub, hook it up to each individual jet and blow them all out one by one. You may even want to do it twice to be certain.
· Use a hot tub cleaner to clean the unit, rinsing with water if called for.
· Use a sump pump, sponge, towel or shop-vac to get out all residual moisture.
· Thoroughly clean the inside and outside of the hot tub cover.
· Properly secure the cover onto the hot tub with the available straps, using a lock if it comes with one. This is to keep the wind from blowing the cover away as well as preventing children or pets from getting in. This also acts as a deterrent to pests like squirrels and mice that could get inside and make nests or chew wires. You don’t want to be surprised with all that damage when you go to open the unit in spring!
