County Approves Resolutions For Playground, Deficient Bridge In Lawrence Township

County freeholders approved the resolutions at a recent meeting.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently approved a resolution approving a $119,261 grant agreement with Lawrence Township for the first project under Mercer at Play 2, a program that encourages municipalities to provide active recreation areas.

The township plans to use the funds to develop a universally accessible playground in Central Park on Eggerts Crossing Road. Mercer at Play 2, the follow-up to the Mercer at Play program that was introduced in 2006, allocates $500,000 for each township with a 100 percent match. The match drops to 50 percent for joint projects. Boroughs have been allocated $300,000 each, increased to $500,000 when they undertake a joint project with another municipality.

It also approved a resolution authorizing an application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for a $1 million grant under NJDOT’s Fiscal Year 2017 Local Bridges, Future Needs Program.

The grant, which is part of a $25 million statewide share among all counties in the FY 2017 Transportation Capital Program, will provide funding toward the repair of two structurally deficient Mercer County bridges: Bakers Basin Road over Shipetauken Creek in Lawrence, and Cranbury Road over Bear Brook in West Windsor.
