DIVERSITY/CULTURE DAY 2014
The Lawrence Township Human Relations Committee will be celebrating Diversity/Culture Day on May 4th at the Lawrence High School Commons, 2525 Princeton Pike, Lawrence Twp., N. J.
I I have been pondering why people should come to the High School and celebrate diversity and why diversity is Important. After thinking this over, here are my humble and personal thoughts regarding Diversity and why we should embrace and celebrate it.
“Diversity is important because it enhances society, organizations, educational institutions, government, and business with a unique perspectives and new ideas. Diversity is the difference in ideas, morals, cultures, lifestyles, and goals. It helps us to identify the differences between us and to embrace them, which can improve relations within our own community and surrounding areas and increase the ability to cope with change, and expand creativity at all levels.”
The keynote speaker at the Diversity/Culture Day is Grammy award-winner, Pamela Pruitt, Director of Multicultural Affairs at Rider University in Lawrence Township, NJ, where she is responsible for promoting unity and diversity among students, faculty, and staff through programs, training, celebrations, and community outreach. She is also a part-time lecturer at the School of Communications & Information [SC&I] at Rutgers in New Brunswick, NJ. She has an extensive and diverse background in media and marketing, having held significant positions at Motown Records/Jobete [Jo-bet] Music Company, CBS Television, Warner Bros. Records, Delta Air Lines, ABC Radio Networks, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, CBS/Westwood One, the Wall Street Journal Radio Network, and WIMG/Morris Broadcasting of New Jersey, Inc.
She participated in a Grammy Award-winning CD [2008-2007] by Ne-Yo entitled, Because of You. Her song [as Pamela Moffett], Baby Come Close, can be heard as the background music for his song, Leaving Tonight, featuring Jennifer Hudson. This is Ms. Pruitt’s first Grammy winning project and platinum recording. She has written songs for Smokey Robinson, the Supremes and others. She also produced her own television show, “Let’s Do Lunch with Pamela.” She is currently writing a book relating to her survival of the events of September 11, 2001 in New York City.
