Dress for Success Raises Funds and Awareness with Power Walk
Every Step taken has helped a woman take a step towards independence.
Lawrenceville, NJ (9/7/23) – Dress for Success Central NJ (DFSCNJ) has recently concluded its virtual Power Walk fundraiser which took place throughout the entire month of August. This event was part of an international movement of Dress for Success Worldwide. The Central Jersey affiliate, a leader in the community with four offices in Central NJ was one of many DFS affiliates around the world to take part.
“Dress for Success is the foremost global nonprofit employment resource for women, we are so proud to be part of such an outstanding organization that empowers women and girls to achieve economic and personal empowerment and independence through an array of life changing, inspiring services at no cost,” says Melissa Tenzer, CEO DFSCNJ.
The Worldwide event culminated on August 26th, Women’s Equality Day. However, DFSCNJ held its Virtual Power Walk throughout the entire month of August. Participants signed up and were able to participate by taking part in any type of physical or well-being activity they would like such as walking, running, swimming, dancing, yoga, meditating, etc.

To help promote the event and Women’s Equality Day, DFSCNJ held a Power Walk Kickoff/Sidewalk Sale on August 23rd at its Lawrenceville headquarters. The event included several vendors, free facepainting, free Rita’s Italian Ice compliments of Rita’s East Windsor, free pizza, compliments of TJ’s Pizza, Lawrence, a sidewalk/inventory sale of fashionable clothes and accessories from the DFSCNJ Boutique, and best of all free exercise demos led by area fitness specialists - Yoga by Gabi Johnson, a stretch session by Fluid Physio and Tai Chi by Larry Goldstein.
“We are so happy that so many community members came out to support Dress for Success and participated in the activities. We are grateful to the many individuals and businesses that contributed their time and services, and the many supporters who signed up, donated, and sponsored the Power Walk. The money raised helps us to continue to provide women and girls with the workforce development and confidence building tools and skills they need to become their best selves and contributing members of the community,” states Tenzer.

Several of the vendors included companies that work closely with DFSCNJ including Wawa, Northfield Bank and Mercer County Community College (MCCC). DFSCNJ is currently in talks with MCCC to further its partnership with the college by providing DFS workforce development programming and professional attire. Sponsors for the DFSCNJ Power Walk include Stark & Stark, The Bank of Princeton, Jane & John Celentano, Studio Hillier, The Flynn Company, Doyle Advisory, Mercer County Community College Foundation, Rehman & Gory Family Fund, Northfield Bank, Amicus Therapeutics, Wawa, Princeton Sports & Family Medicine, Credit Union of NJ Foundation, Fluid Physio.
“At Dress for Success, we help all women regardless of their circumstances. We are here for every woman, whether it’s for clothes, programs, advice, mentorship, a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen. Our goal is to meet our women where they are,” said Tenzer. “It is so inspiring to see our clients’ confidence grow through our academies and workforce programming. Leadership is born when women are given the tools to succeed.”
