TRENTON, NJ – Hiltonia, one of Trenton’s largest tracts of residential single family and townhouse homes, will host a house tour on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from noon to 5 p.m. This is the first time the homeowners of the lavish and eclectic West Ward neighborhood will open their homes to the public.
The tour features over a dozen homes situated on tree-lined avenues bordering the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park and Cadwalader Park, designed by acclaimed landscape architect Frederick Olmstead who also designed New York’s Central Park and the Lawrenceville School campus. The event is sponsored by the Hiltonia Association, which is collaborating with the Trenton Artist Workshop Association (TAWA), hosting Trenton artists and their artwork at many homes.
Established in 1923, Hiltonia is a community of 315 homes located near Route 29, three miles from downtown. The beauty of the neighborhood is in the diversity of its housing stock, from fieldstone Tudors and brick Dutch colonials to mid-century modern ranches and attached townhouses. The diversity and quality of the housing allows buyers at a variety of price points to purchase in the neighborhood—very rare today. Developer Samuel Hilton designed the neighborhood with large lots for the city’s wealthier professionals and attached townhouses (semis) were first built as workers’ cottages to provide the funding needed to jump start the rest of the development.
Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. They can be purchased atwww.hiltoniahousetour.org and these locations:

About The Hiltonia Association
The Hiltonia Association began as a men’s eating club in the 1920’s. After the 1960’s upheaval in Trenton, the Association was later revitalized by a new group of residents in the 1970’s, with a mission to protect and promote the welfare of the neighborhood and advance civic and social interest. Today, the organization continues to thrive with many dedicated neighbors supporting its mission. www.hiltoniaassociation.org
