Harvest Potatoes For Those In Need In Mercer County Saturday

Volunteers will help farm staff plant potato seeds in furrows opened with horse-drawn equipment.

Mercer County residents are invited to help farm a special crop of potatoes that will be donated to the Greater Mercer Food Cooperative and other local hunger projects this weekend. Visitors to the 130-acre “living history” farm can join the field crew anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. Volunteers will help farm staff plant potato seeds in furrows opened with horse-drawn equipment.

Parking and admission are free. In keeping with their 30-year tradition of helping with the event, members of the New Jersey Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will work alongside farmers and visitors to plant the crop.

Howell Farm is owned by the County of Mercer and maintained by the Mercer County Park Commission. It is located on Valley Road, just off Route 29, in Hopewell Township. The GPS address is 70 Woodens Lane, Hopewell Township, NJ 08530. Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
