How Much Is COVID Spreading In Mercer County?

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County and New Jersey has seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?

This week the County saw an uptick in COVID-19 cases. As of Friday, Mercer County reported 70 new coronavirus cases and one related death. The cumulative total of coronavirus cases now stands at 37,736 with 973 confirmed deaths since the pandemic began last year.

Mercer County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest COVID-19 activity report (week ending Nov. 20). The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate, and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

Meanwhile, many townships across the County have started administering the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 and up.

State officials said that the number of children ages 5 to 11 years old who are getting vaccinated increased five-fold.

Gov. Phil Murphy said this week that the state will apply a phased approach to lifting the mask mandates in NJ schools. In less than two months the New Jersey statewide school mask mandate is set to expire.

"We are not there yet on lifting the mandate but please God we will be. I hope it's sooner than later," said Murphy about the school mask mandate during a news conference Monday.
