Lawrence Closes Municipal Building To Visitors After COVID Surge
The decision to reopen the building will be made on a weekly basis depending on the COVID-19 data received, officials said.
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Earlier this week, Lawrence Township decided to close the municipal building to visitors, after a surge in COVID-19 numbers in Mercer County.
The decision to reopen the building will be made on a weekly basis depending on the COVID-19 data received, township manager Kevin Nerwinski informed residents on Facebook.
“The increase in positive virus cases coupled with the expected gatherings of people for the holiday weekend causes me to take this action to make sure our municipal operations continue without interruption,” Nerwinksi said.

All municipal offices remain operational, and employees will be working. Visitors will not be able to enter the municipal building to conduct their business. Instead, staff will meet them at the North Entrance and provide needed assistance. “This will all be facilitated by a staff member positioned at the entrance. The black box remains at the North Entrance for those that prefer to drop off their documents/payments instead of mailing them,” Nerwinski said.
The township’s Senior Center will remain open for the activities and unvaccinated persons will be required to wear masks. All evening municipal meetings - council, planning board, zoning - scheduled for next week will be open to the public, but unvaccinated residents are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
