Lawrence Gets Silver-Level Certification From Sustainable Jersey

Lawrence Township is among 81 municipalities that have attained certification for this year.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Lawrence Township has once again met the rigorous requirements for a Sustainable Jersey certification.

For 2022, the township was awarded a silver-level certification with 505 points. Sustainable Jersey is a program that helps communities that work towards a more sustainable future.

Certified towns are an outstanding group of municipalities making important contributions toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey, and world.

"Lawrence Township has proudly embraced the need to implement and maintain sustainable programs and actions into our municipal operations to join in the global effort to reduce our carbon footprint and utilize alternative energy sources,” Mayor John Ryan said in a media statement. “

“This recognition from Sustainable Jersey acknowledges that we are a leading municipality within our State committed to creating a better environment for future generations.”

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Lawrence Township completed a rigorous program. The Township completed 42 actions in 13 different categories. These include brownfields planning, brownfields assessment and investigation, vulnerable populations identification for emergencies, municipal on-site solar system, purchase of alternative fuel vehicles, public electric vehicle charging infrastructure, local business support, prescription drug safety, tree maintenance programs, and complete street activities.
