Lawrence Homeowners Can Now Have Chickens In Their Backyards

Lawrence Township, NJ -- There’s now a place for chickens in Lawrence Township.

In response to the growing popularity of chickens among Lawrence Township residents, town council approved an ordinance allowing homeowners to keep chickens in their backyards, centraljersey.com reports.

The number of chickens that would be permitted depends on the size of the person’s lot, with one or two allowed in a 5,000 square foot lot, and three allowed in a 10,000 square foot lot, according to the report. The most that would be allowed under the ordinance is six chickens, on a 40,000 square foot lot.

Homeowners would need a permit to have chickens, as well as a chicken coop, according to the report.

No roosters will be allowed.
