The Lawrence Lightning Junior Football Club held its summer camp last week which included a visit from the Philadelphia Soul arena football team. The Soul held a football clinic at Rider University for the Lightning players which included instruction from players and coaches. The event was sponsored by AJM Insurance. AJM President, Tony Mahon, told the crowd how his own son played junior football as he presented Coach Cecil Boone with a donation of $250 for the Lawrence Lightning. Coach Boone, the Director of Football Operations for the Lightning, thanked the Soul and AJM for their commitment to community involvement.
Lawrence Mayor, Jim Kownacki, was on hand to greet families. "I want everyone at the Lightning to know that the township will support them in any way we can", he said.
Lightning players were instructed by Soul players through a series of drills where they worked on passing, receiving, blocking and tackling. A professional photographer was on site to document the event and to take portraits of each player with "Soul Man", the Philadelphia Soul's mascot.
Coach Boone expressed his gratitude to the Soul and AJM for the clinic. "This kind of community outreach is vital to organizations like the Lawrence Lightning. We're happy to have started relationships with the Philadelphia Soul and AJM Insurance in such a grand, productive way."
The Lawrence Lightning Junior Football Club is open for registration for children 4-14.
