Lawrence Public Schools Go Remote This School Year

The school year will begin with remote learning. The district will reassess conditions to bring back staff and students every 30 days.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Lawrence Public Schools announced Thursday that it will begin the school year with remote learning. Superintendent Ross Kasun presented the school district’s Restart and Reopen Plan to the Board of Education on August 12, which was approved. School begins on September 8.

Kasun said the district will reassess the conditions to bring back students and staff into school buildings every 30 days. Under remote learning, students will be given a minimum of four lessons per week, taught via live instruction. Teachers will also help students participate in self-guided activities to support learning.

Childcare will be available for students in need. The Capital Area YMCA will provide childcare within the public schools during the school day. They will hold an online townhall session on Wednesday next week to discuss enrollment, option, protocols and procedure.

The school district will move to a hybrid model when its deemed safe. Under the hybrid model the schedule will rotate on a weekly basis between two cohorts. The school day will be four hours long and parents will have to fill out a pre-screening document. Students and staff will have to follow all safety protocols put in place by the school district.
