Lawrence Twp. Named 2020 Tree City USA By Arbor Day Foundation

The township was recognized for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Arbor Day Foundation has named Lawrence Township a 2020 Tree City USA, officials said. It is the township’s 25th year participating in the program.

The township was recognized for its commitment to effective urban forest management. Lawrence achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements - a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Mayor James Kownacki said the township was “extremely proud” to successful participants in the program. “Preserving the character and nature of our community by having an effective tree management program is a responsibility that we take seriously, and will continue for years to come,” Kownacki said in a media statement.
