Lawrenceville Nonprofit Collects Gifts for Children in Crisis

PEI Kids, a nonprofit in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, is collecting Amazon Wishlist donations of toys and gifts for children in its crisis counselling program.

Most children look forward to Christmas. They may be excited about eating lots of cookies, seeing their families, and, of course, presents. But for some Mercer County children, the gifts represent more than just toys from family and friends. For child victims of sexual assault, they can represent a road to recovery.

Since 1987, PEI Kids has served more than 6,000 children who have been victims of sexual abuse. As the only agency in the area that provides counselling to children as young as 3, we offer trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) to hundreds of kids every year. But while helping children learn boundaries and self-worth is important, we also want kids to feel free to be kids. And what's more Christmas-y than getting the gift you always dreamed of from Santa Claus?

We collected over two dozen letters to Santa from children in our crisis counselling program. These kids want everything from Barbie dolls to Beast Labs, and we collected their results into our Amazon Wishlist so that "Santa"s around Mercer County can help them get the gifts of their dreams. Our goal is to have every gift delivered to our office by December 18th.
