Lawrenceville School Student Named 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholar

6 NJ students are being recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - A Student from the elite Lawrenceville School has been named among the U.S. Presidential Scholars for 2023, the Department of Education announced Wednesday.

Andrew C. Noviello was among six New Jersey students to be named for the prestigious scholarship. Noviello is a senior at the private boarding school and lives in Bridgewater.

A total of 161 high school seniors are being recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

Gov. Phil Murphy congratulated all six NJ scholars on Twitter. “You all have a bright future ahead, no matter what path you take,” Murphy said on Twitter.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars every year based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.

More than 5,000 candidates qualified for the 2023 awards determined by outstanding performance on the College Board SAT or ACT exams or through nominations made by chief state school officers, other partner recognition organizations and YoungArts, the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists, the DOE said.

The 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one young man and one young woman from each state, as well as 15 chosen at large, 20 scholars in the arts and 20 scholars in career and technical education.

The Presidential Scholars Class of 2023 will be recognized for their achievements with an online recognition program this summer.
