Officer Gabriella Amiet visited Eldridge Park Elementary for Read Across America Week.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — A Mercer County sheriff's officer traded her badge for a book last week, joining students at Eldridge Park Elementary School for Read Across America Week with a message about resilience, integrity and chasing your dreams.
Officer Gabriella Amiet visited the Lawrence Township school as part of the national celebration, which runs March 2-6 and coincides each year with Dr. Seuss's birthday.
Read Across America is the nation's largest reading event, drawing volunteers, educators and community leaders into classrooms across the country.

Amiet read from three children's books chosen for their themes of breaking stereotypes, standing up to prejudice and the importance of staying true to your values. Through the readings, she encouraged students not to let others limit their ambitions.
Students also got involved beyond the storytime. The children crafted 220 sheriff's safety tip stars, which will be displayed in the school's hallways.
