A Mercer County man has been indicted in connection with the fatal overdose of a Burlington County woman he sold fentanyl-laced heroin to last year, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

Daquan Marshall, 28, of Trenton, has been indicted on one count of first-degree strict liability for drug-induced death, two counts of third-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and one count of third-degree conspiracy.

The prosecutor’s office has also identified the victim as 22-year-old Alexandra Kohfeldt, of Springfield. Burlington Township police responded to her home on Oct. 30, 2018, for a report of a possible overdose.

Upon arrival, officers found Kohfeldt in a bedroom with a hypodermic needle near her body, according to the prosecutor's office. She was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, where she died on Nov. 4 without ever having regained consciousness.

An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood determined that her death was due to fentanyl toxicity. Marshall originally faced drug distribution charges, but the offense was upgraded after she died and investigators traced the drugs back to him.
