Mercer County Prosecutor To Speak At 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
Mercer County will hold its annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Mercer County College.
Mercer County will hold its 18th annual ceremony in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m.
The ceremony will take place at Mercer County College’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road, adjacent to the Student Center and the Quad. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Student Center.
Participating dignitaries will lay a wreath on the college’s memorial bench. Special tribute will be paid to the 30 Mercer County residents who died in the attacks.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri will be the keynote speaker. Onofri, an alumnus of Rutgers University (B.A. Political Science) and Villanova University School of Law, was sworn in as Mercer County prosecutor on December 28, 2016, after being appointed by Governor Chris Christie and unanimously confirmed by the New Jersey Senate.
He had been serving as acting prosecutor since March 1, 2015. As the county’s chief law enforcement officer, he leads the 200-member prosecutor’s office.

Onofri is also a certified instructor with the New Jersey Police Training Commission and teaches numerous courses at the Mercer County Police Academy, where he serves as the vice chairman of the board. He is the immediate past president of the Mercer County Bar Association and first vice president of the County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey.
Onofri also serves on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Special Olympics, and is a member of numerous community organizations, including the Hamilton Police Athletic League, where he chairs the Scholarship Committee, the New Jersey Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee, the Capital City Community Coalition and Project READ.
Additional speakers for the Remembrance Ceremony include Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes and Mercer County College Board of Trustees Chair Mark Matzen. The invocation will be given by Mercer County College Chaplain Rev. Robert Wittik. Musical selections will be performed by Mercer County College faculty and students.
