Mercer County Residents Can Take Control of Their Health With New Workshop
The program was developed by Stanford University.

Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service of Mercer County, Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS), will teach a six-week free workshop titled “Take Control of Your Health” from June 22 through July 27, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
It is hosted by ECHO Inc., and it takes place at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 471 Parkway Avenue, Trenton.
Michelle Brill, Family & Community Health Sciences Educator, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County, and Beatriz Velazquez, Certified Personal Trainer, will lead the workshops.
Adults of all ages who are living with long-term health conditions and their caregivers are encouraged to take part in this series.

Participants will learn to better manage their symptoms and understand how things like healthy eating, physical activity, better breathing techniques, sleep, and communication can improve their quality of life.
They will participate in a variety of activities, including brainstorming, problem solving and action planning, and receive a free book, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”

Light refreshments will be served.
To register, call the Cooperative Extension Service at 609-989-6831 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Stanford University developed the program.
“It is the process in which the program is taught that makes it effective. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives,” according to the Stanford University School of Medicine and patient education website.
