Mercer County Veterans Day Ceremony Set For Sunday

Mercer County will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony, presented by Mercer County Veteran Services in conjunction with the Mercer County Veterans Council, on Sunday, Nov. 11, noon at VFW Post 3525, 77 Christine Ave., Hamilton.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes will join with other county and local officials to recognize and appreciate the many county residents who have served in America’s armed forces. Hughes will give brief remarks at the ceremony, followed by remarks from retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Donald A. Weyler.

“We value our veterans for their courage, their willingness to fight for democratic principles, and their contributions to the community,” Hughes said. “I hope you’ll join me in paying tribute to all Mercer County veterans on November 11.”

This year’s program will also feature the placement of a wreath to honor veterans’ service, and a salute to fallen veterans by American Legion Post 31 and Marine Corps League Trenton Detachment 207.

Nov. 11, 2018, marks the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, the Great War, in which an estimated 16 million combatants and civilians died, including 116,516 U.S. soldiers.
