Mercer Man Charged With Murder After Girlfriend Found Dead In Apartment

Carlos Pean, 29, was arrested in Tinton Falls days after Adeline Alfred was found dead in their shared apartment, prosecutors say.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Hamilton man was charged with murder in connection with the killing of his girlfriend, whose body was discovered during a welfare check at their apartment last week, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey said.

Carlos Pean, 29, was taken into custody Saturday in Tinton Falls by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Special Investigations Unit.

Officers responded to the first block of Bradford Avenue in Hamilton around 7 a.m. on March 24 to conduct a welfare check and found Adeline Alfred, 29, unresponsive inside the apartment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alfred shared the apartment with Pean, and authorities said she was “a victim of an apparent physical assault.”

The prosecutor's office has filed a motion to detain Pean pending trial. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Hamilton Police Division are investigating.
