'Swatting' Blamed For Shooter Threat At Lawrence's Rider U.

An alert was sent out to the campus on Monday afternoon asking them to shelter in place. The threat was "not credible," police said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The active shooter threat to Rider University on Monday afternoon was a “swatting” incident, Lawrence Police said.

Rider University’s Public Safety Office received an anonymous phone call threatening gun violence on campus, police and University officials said.

An immediate shelter in place order was issued through the University's emergency communication system, to Rider staff and students asking them to stay or get inside and move away from windows.

Around 1 p.m. the Lawrence Police responded to the Rider University campus to investigate the threat.

After conducting a thorough investigation on campus, authorities determined the threat was not credible and that it was a “swatting event.”

After police told University officials the call was a “swatting event” the shelter in place was lifted.

The Lawrence Township Police Department along with state and federal law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the “swatting” incident.

No arrests have been made at this time.
