LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) has awarded $57,528 to Lawrence Township Public Schools. The funds will go towards supporting 22 innovative programs at the school district.

These projects and programs fall outside the regular budget. The grant covers literacy, science, math, character and physical education, music and the arts.

“Nine of the 22 grants we are funding are programs that will impact more than one school,” said Karen Faiman, executive director at LTEF. “We love it when schools work together to bring a new initiative to more than one school at a time.”

At the elementary school level, the grant will support programs like ‘Mindful Moments,’ ‘Movements and Songs,’ which will bring yoga assemblies to students. This program will combine mindfulness with music and movement to engage, calm, and unite students. Additionally, all elementary schools will get “Climate Change Corners” to house books on climate change.

With help from the grant, Eldridge Park School will be adding a Gaga pit and permanent adjustable basketball hoop to provide students with a fun, safe and healthy way to stay active.

Lawrence Intermediate School and Lawrence Middle School teamed up to bring dog therapy to both schools. “AIR Dogs: Paws for Minds” received $9,800 for the program which will bring dog therapy for at risk and emotionally fragile students for the next two years. This grant was entirely made possible by a grant from Church & Dwight.

The schools will also see an addition to flexible seating options.

The grant will also support creation of murals in all bathrooms at Lawrence Intermediate School by the Social Justice Club and Art Department; targeted language and literacy support for ESL students; and two sets of Tchoukball.

A grant at Lawrence High School will fund Vernier LabQuest devices for all science classes. Additionally, the school will benefit from a new Wenger Conductor’s Podium that will improve musical performances and practices.

The LTEF raises funds from individuals, local businesses, corporations, and foundations. Since 1992, it has funded over 1,000 programs in Lawrence schools. For more, visit www.ltefnj.org or email info@ltefnj.org.
