The Salvation Army Trenton Citadel Corps Welcomes New Officers

Majors Elijah and Valerie Kahn Arrive in Trenton

Trenton, NJ (July 12, 2017) – The Salvation Army’s Trenton Citadel Corps welcomed new Commanding Officers earlier this month. They are also the appointed West Central Region Area Coordinators for Mercer, Hunterdon, and Somerset Counties. Majors Elijah and Valerie Kahn arrived in Trenton, NJ after serving for six years in their previous post in Mahoning County, Ohio.

Majors Kahn have been Salvation Army Officers for 21 years. Major Elijah became involved with The Salvation Army after several of his younger siblings attended programs at his hometown corps in Brooklyn, NY. Major Valerie’s parents were Salvation Army Officers, and she began Officer Training College in 1994.

“We’re looking forward to familiarizing ourselves with all that is taking place in this great city, and the Greater Mercer County area,” said Major Elijah Kahn. “We know there is a lot of work to be done in our community, and that The Salvation Army can be an instrumental part of making those improvements. We are here to serve and to be a part of this community.”

“Trenton is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, said Major Valerie Kahn. “With an area saturated with non-profits and social service organizations, it’s important to us to identify areas of need that aren’t already being met. We want to fulfill our mission of Doing the Most Good and transforming lives here.”

Major Elijah Kahn was a soldier of the Brooklyn Brownsville Corps in New York City when he entered The Salvation Army College for Officers Training in 1993. Major Valerie Kahn entered the training College from the Pittsburgh Temple Corps in Pittsburgh, PA. Both Majors were commissioned and ordained as Salvation Army officers/pastors in 1995 and 1996 respectively. They were married in 1996 and began their ministry together as Corps Officers of the New Rochelle Corps in New York.

For the next 15 years, the Kahns served in various appointments in and around the New York City area until 2011 when they were appointed to the Mahoning Valley as Mahoning County and Associate Mahoning County Area Coordinators.

Major Elijah Kahn is a graduate of Nyack College and Eastern University with undergraduate and graduate degrees. He attended the International College for Officers in London, England in 2014. Major Valerie Kahn has a degree in Elementary Education from Geneva College. They are the parents to two wonderful teenaged daughters.
