Students Hurled Racial Slurs, Peed On Girl At Football Game: LPD

Police are investigating a racially-charged incident that happened at the Lawrence High School football game Friday night.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Lawrence Township police are investigating an incident in which a middle school student was peed on while racially charged language was used against her at a football game Friday night.

The alleged incident took place during Lawrence’s home game against Steinert on Oct. 18, police said Saturday afternoon. Police didn’t release any further information about the incident Saturday afternoon.

An African American seventh-grader at Lawrence Middle School was the alleged victim, according to The Trentonian. She told her mother a Steinert student who appeared to be of Indian descent was one of several people who tried to pee on her during the game.

“I was and am deeply disturbed by the account of the incident on Facebook,” Lawrence Township Mayor Christopher Bobbit said in a post on social media. “As I have said publicly before, hate has no home in Lawrence Township. As someone that has felt its sting, I know that bigotry exists and sadly will continue to exist but that doesn’t mean that I give up. Instead, I look to find allies that will help me fight the cancer of bigotry. When an antisemitic incident occurred in Lawrence, I joined with allies in Trenton to speak out publicly against bigotry against our Jewish brothers and sisters. Now it is time to find out what happened last night and to deal with it appropriately.”
