Summer Olympics 2016: Lawrenceville Native Named Alternate for U.S. Rowing Team

Thomas Dethlefs began rowing at the Lawrenceville School in 2005.

Lawrenceville, NJ -- A Lawrenceville native still has a shot at winning Olympic Gold this summer.

Thomas Dethlefs is listed as an alternate for the Men’s Eight Rowing team at the Summer Olympics in Rio next month.

The team consists of Austin Hack (Old Lyme, Conn.),Rob Munn (Redmond, Wash.), Mike DiSanto (Boston, Mass.), Steve Kasprzyk (Cinnaminson, N.J.), Glenn Ochal (Philadelphia, Pa.), Alex Karwoski (Hollis, N.H.), Hans Struzyna (Kirkland, Wash.) and Sam Dommer (Folsom, Calif.). They qualified following their first-place finish in Switzerland in May.

The 26-year-old began rowing at the Lawrenceville School in 2005. He majored in history at Yale University, and is being coached by Luke McGee, Bryan Volpenhein. He is training in Princeton.

He’s won four gold medals in international competition, according to usrowing.org.

The summer games run from Aug. 5-21.
