USTA FOUNDATION AWARDS $20,000 GRANT TO NATIONAL JUNIOR TENNIS & LEARNING OF TRENTON

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 6, 2015 – USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), today announced it has awarded The National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton a $20,000 program grant. The foundation concluded its 2014 grant funding cycle by awarding $741,500 in grants to 44 organizations that provide tennis and education to under-resourced youth and people with disabilities, as well those organizations with a need for program infrastructure support.

The National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton is dedicated to strengthening the character and enhancing the lives of under-resourced youth by providing opportunities and instruction in tennis, education and nutrition. The USTA Foundation grant will support of the Ashe Elite Student Athlete program, which provides a path of academic enrichment, mentoring and college preparation combined with year-round advanced tennis training, subsidized tournament competition/travel, scholarships, internships and employment opportunities. The goals and objectives of the Ashe Elite program will be monitored by specific performance and behavioral objectives that are measured using outcome-based evaluation tools.

The USTA Foundation program grant is a biannual national initiative that was established to award organizations that successfully combine tennis and education to give under-resourced youth and individuals with disabilities the opportunity to play tennis and improve their academic skills in a structured setting. These programs also strive to help combat childhood obesity by promoting healthy lifestyles.
