The investigation began when Hamilton Police Officers Justin McWilliam and Michael Kenna were sent to the Gulf Gas Station on 1106 Chambers St. on a report of a stolen vehicle with a child in the car.
The child’s mother reported that she parked her car in front of the Gulf Gas Station convenience store and went inside to purchase a few items while her granddaughter was left in the car secured in her car seat, police said.

While she was paying for her items, she observed a man drive off in her 2005 four door Honda Accord.
The man was described as being white, 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, brown hair and mustache, wearing a dark colored baseball hat, white tee shirt and blue jeans.
Multiple police units responded and immediately started searching the area. An initial alert was also issued to law enforcement agencies in Mercer County, the New Jersey State Police and Bordentown Township Police.
While speaking with the victim, she advised officers she had left her cell phone in her car. Officers were able to locate her vehicle with the child inside on the 600 block of Franklin Street in Trenton, with the assistance of her cell phone company, police said.
As a precaution, the child was evaluated by emergency medical services personnel at the scene where it was determined no further treatment was necessary. The child was reunited with family members.
