Ways To Welcome Your New Neighbors

Hey there! (You can skip this paragraph if you want the meat and potatoes. No worries.) Before I get started with ways to welcome your new neighbors, let me explain why this is important. Welcoming your neighbors is an easy way to avoid the awkward staring that occurs while peeking through your blinds and learning your new neighbor's patterns as they move in. Sounds funny, but we all do it! You can rightfully look after making an introduction and smile while observing. Being serious, you don't have to be the most extroverted person to do this. I'm not suggesting that you actually have to invite strangers into your home or bake cookies for them. Trust me, that's the last thing I am suggesting. First, you don't want me baking for you (did you catch my episode on The Chew in 2018 with Carla P Hall? I can't bake to save my life.) Also, I can be messy at times so I don't need my new neighbors judging my home. It would definitely need to be an invitation because I need time to clear the mail off my countertops and stuff like that.

We all know why welcoming your new neighbor is important. Just keep in mind, you have a shared interest and that is living in a safe community where everyone looks out for each other. It's important to get face recognition and a sense of their friendliness. Anyway, let's just jump into it! I promise you won't be considered nosey if you choose an idea that is comfortable for you.

Ways to Welcome Your New Neighbor:

1. Mail a Welcome Card (Short and sweet and does not require perfect timing) Download one here: https://drive.google.com/file/...
2. Mail or leave an envelope on their doorstep (ring the bell and run if you're not ready for face-to-face) Download a printable here: https://drive.google.com/file/...
3. Deliver flowers or leave a small bouquet at the doorstep with a short note. (No Roses, that's weird)
4. Drop off a bundle of take-out menus with a ribbon wrapped around it.
5. Knock on the door, introduce yourself, and give them your contact info for emergencies
6. If they have a pet, buy a pet toy and gift it to them from your pet.
7. Store-made and wrapped cookies. (avoid cooking or making anything in your kitchen, people are funny with eating from someone they do not know)
8. Drop off a bottle of Cider congratulating them on their move (Avoid alcohol, for now)
9. Make a list of tips to get around and drop it off. (Ex. your favorite coffee shop, must try restaurant, your favorite grocery store)
10. Walk your pet when you know they are outside and give a hollar.
11. Gift a small house plant with a note. (In person or leave with a note from who and with your address)
12. If you have a business, let them know and offer your services to them in the near future
13. Join with another neighbor and introduce yourself.
