Don't Forget Local Memorial Day Services

Both and Oceanport are hosting Memorial Day services Monday to commemorate the men and women who have died serving the United States military.

Festivities kick off early in Little Silver. Those participating in the borough's annual parade will begin lining up on Parker Avenue (next to Willow Deli) at 8:15 a.m. in preparation for marching to Memorial Park for services. The parade will kick off at 8:30 a.m. A service, including scout honor guards laying wreaths and readings of winning essays by students, begins at 9 a.m. at Memorial Park.

In Oceanport, the annual parade begins at Blackberry Bay Park at 9:30 a.m. and ends at with a ceremony.

The service's keynote speaker is Commander Boyd Decker, USN, Commanding Officer of the Navy Operational Support Center at Naval Weapons Station Earle.
